As some of you might know, I’ve been trying to break into the hybrid game and have decided to go with a Prius (for the record, there are only really a handful of choices). Apparently American made hybrids are not the way to go, so it was only between Toyota and Honda. My dad’s got a Honda hybrid (the Civic) and the pickup is a little wack with it, so that kind of got me thinking Toyota. Top of the Toyota food chain is the Prius, so now I’m going to get one. Big question is… do I get a new one or a used one? Pros and Cons to each, so let’s compare:

Pros to New Prius:

• They look less like toasters and more like cars.  The old look of Prius’ is kind of strange, but the 2010 models are actually pretty sweet looking.
• No existing problems / no miles on it
• I’d get to pick the color
• Wouldn’t have any little dings or scratches
• Full warranty from the dealership

Cons to New Prius:

• More expensive than a used (about $3,000 – $5,000 cheaper to get a used)
• That’s pretty much it for the cons

Pros to Used Prius:

• Cheaper than a new one

Cons to Used Prius:

• It’s always weird buying a used car
• Might have strange problems
• The one’s I’ve seen have test driven / seen have all been fairly high mileage (even the ones that were only a year or two old)
• It’s weird that someone would want to give up a car that’s only a couple years old… seems sketchy (a little bit)

So what do you guys think?  I am leaning towards a new one just because I think it’s worth it, but I’m always down to get people’s take on it.  When am I going to get it???  I don’t know, maybe February.
